The Central Museum in Utrecht is one of the oldest city museums in the Netherlands and the place to be if you are looking to admire the world’s biggest collection of Gerrit Rietveld’s designs. Also worthy of a mention are the paintings of Utrecht’s Caravaggism artists, works by Moesman and illustrations by Dick Bruna. The museum is situated in a monastery dating back to the Middle Age, made up of multiple buildings with a beautiful courtyard garden and terrace. Wonder through the many tunnels and stairwells and be taken aback by the range of exhibitions.
Visitors travel from all over the place to marvel at the Gerrit Rietveld- collection, specifically his ‘Red-Blue chair’, which is representative for the art-style ‘The Style’. Therefore also worth visiting is the Rietveld Schröderhuis (1924), located in the east of Utrecht.
