Castle Zuylen is one of the oldest castles located by river the Vecht, just outside of the city Utrecht. The castle has a rich family history and has been surprisingly well maintained; the interior with antique furniture and paintings are still in great shape. Experience the lives of the influential family members, like the author Belle van Zuylen (1740 - 1805), who lived in the castle until she got married.
When visiting Castle Zuylen, don’t forget to stroll through the castle gardens, which house a monumental ‘crinkle crankle’ or ‘serpentine’ wall, beautiful roses with their scent wafting throughout the garden, and an orchard with historical fruit. The garden is accessible for a small fee or in combination with a visit to the castle.
The castle is opened Wednesday through Sunday, and can be reached by bike (half an hour) or other means of transport.
